Peter didn't sink because he stepped out of the boat, he sank because he didn't believe. It's ok to be scared, in fact in my case it helps me draw closer to God. Every experience I have had in this life has came down to one issue, whether or not I believed God and took Him at His Word. The times I was able to get through, I found God's peace in what seemed like impossible situations and His Grace was enough for me. In times I didn't seek God, things got a lot worse.

I think a big reason why we fail is we don't take that step out there and believe God, like Peter, we get too wrapped up in our surroundings. Our focus is not on God when it should be. Peter failed because he realized he was standing on water, and his first emotion was to freak out. There are things in our lives that cause us to freak out too, but if we put our focus on God and are willing to take that first step, things could be a lot better.
