Encouragement

Last week I volunteered for VBS at our church. I was going to be a storyteller. This meant I would have to get up in front of a lot of people, and I really didn't put this all together when I first signed up for this. I'm terrified of speaking in public, I don't have much experience with this. What happens if I screw up or forget a line?

It turns out I would have to tell the story three times, to three different groups. So the day came, and I was praying a lot, mostly that I wouldn't screw up, but also that God would be with me. So I got there the first group came in, and it was a little rough. I forgot some lines, some kids interupted, which threw me off, and to beat it all it was the biggest group and the pastor was there. During one of the breaks, I notice a young boy smiling at me, and it actually carried me through. I noticed it again the second and third time I told the stories as well. In fact I was growing in confidence and by the third time I nailed it!

Later that night I realized, that in each group there was one person who really helped me through it. Whether they knew it or not, they really encouraged me. Then it made me think of what I prayed earlier in the day, Jesus please be with me. I knew I had to face this fear of speaking in public, and Jesus being Jesus, didn't disappoint. He was with me every step of the way and helped me to face one of my biggest fears.

I wanted to share this with you because we all have things we fear that hold us back from doing something great for God. Maybe you're afraid of speaking in public, maybe you're scared of failing. Regardless of whatever it is you can count on Jesus to be there with you through it all. I can tell you that from the experience I had. I was put in this position for a reason, so I could solely depend on God to get me through. No matter what it is we face in life we know God is there to help us through. We just have to believe in Him enough to look for Him.
