Just Who Do You Think You Are

St. John 19:9-11
And he went back inside the palace. Where do you come from? He asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.

Do you refuse to speak to me? Pilate said. Do you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?

Jesus answered; you would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore, the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.

St. John 3:6-7
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.

The best way to condescend to men of low estate is to answer not their accusations. People will think that they are putting you in the judgment hall, but just like Haman in the book of Esther the third chapter when he was advanced to a seat above all the princes that were with him that bowed before him he thought that he was untouchable. He had a man that was a Jew named Mordecai that bowed not to him or gave him reverence. Haman was full of wrath because of this and he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had showed him the people of Mordecai, the Jews whom Haman sought to kill throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus. His false pride took him before the King unbeknown to the King that his Queen Esther also was a Jew, to get permission to have all the Jews perished. Letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day to take the spoil of them for a prey. However, just who did he think he was? God was the God of the Jews and he had a plan of deliverance set in place for his people.

Haman was jealous of Mordecai, envious, conniving and suffered death to him and his children because of his own plot to kill Mordicai.

Esther was in position and she stayed in obedience as she had been taught. She was in position to save her people. She also was beautiful outside and inside, which gained her divine favor. After having the favor of the King she still stayed humble, did not make her face up, or put a sign on her chest that she was saved. She only lived the life of a Christian. Mordecai was also in the right place at the right time to hear Haman’s plot against the Jews. Because one man would not bow down, he wanted a whole nation destroyed.

Esther knew how to obey because as a child; she was taught obedience by Mordecai who raised her after her parents died. God will always put in place what is needed for our deliverance to come forth. He will allow you the unusual if you have him right, like his Word says. You are where you are for a reason and God is right is always on time. She was chosen to be Queen after her predecessor,


Vashti was evicted from her position when she failed to obey the King’s order that she dance before him. She did not dance to his music. Vashti was high-minded, disobedient, disrespectful, and she brought dishonor, a reproach, and shame to the office. She not only disrespected the King, but every man that was in his presence and over his province. She set a bad example for all the other women of the province. The whole kingdom would be polluted with a spirit of disobedience if she went unpunished. Every woman in the provinces would disrespect their husbands. Her actions could not go unnoticed. What do your deeds say about you?

It is not what people see on the outside that is done, but what is in the inner heart of man when confronted by his peers, sisters, or brothers. What are the intents of your heart when you bring an attack against some other innocent person? Whether you know it or not, God is looking at you and your actions will be recompensed for. The Devil has always desired to be somebody special and he always want you to quit in the midst of your performance. He is always after disturbing your peace in Christ. He is now and never was content with just being Lucifer. He did not stop until his name was changed to Satan, or the Devil with the power given him in Heaven. He was not content then and never will be. He wanted to be God him self, he wants the Glory that only can be given to our creator, Father God. Now instead; he is now identified as the god of this world, the prince and ruler of evil spirits, Satan, the name given him to fit the actions. It also means Demon, an evil spirit usually translated Devil. Satan also means adversary, the watcher over human affairs, who searches out human weaknesses and makes accusations before God. His power is limited to that which is given by divine permission. He is also a tempter who provoke, his conception is developed in the direction of his independence of and opposition of God and his Kingdom. In Mathew 4:1, he is a recognized accuser and he is strong. He does not use anything weak. He uses people at the top of the ladder. He even accused Jesus of working his miracles by the power of the evil one. He is able to make void you good works. He moves to falsehoods, lies and murder. He tears down deceptively. He throws a ball and hides his hands and the action usually causes them that are used by him to lie confidently murdering another with their mouths. But not only does he use you, but afterwards he punishes you for doing evil. He also instigates sickness, but his power will end because he is the angel of the bottomless pit.
We also identify him by other names, murderer, liar, lying spirit, great red dragon, evil spirit, the devil, Belial, Beelzebub, adversary, enemy, father of lies, serpent of old, power of darkness, prince of this world, ruler of devils, of the power of the air, ruler of the darkness of this world, Satan, serpent, tempter, unclean spirit, evil one, and Demon.
All of these names refer to someone bad, why would you want to be associated with him.

His fruits are evil and are unfruitful. Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire according to Matthew 7:19. Every branch in me that bears not fruit he take away and every branch that bears fruit, he purge it that it may bring forth more fruit. Abide in me Jesus said and I will abide in you for the branch cannot bear fruit of itself except it abide in the vine.

One of his greatest attributes is that he is very selfish and self seeking. He finds our weaknesses and uses them to bring glory to himself. He is self-pleasing, whatever pleases him, is what he will do, not to please anyone else though. He does not edify anything or any one; it is all about him, a servant to no one. He knows nothing about charity or love, kindness, he envies, is full of jealousy, vaunted up in pride, puffed up, is always behaving unseemly, seeks his own, easily provoking, and is always thinking evil. Satan loves no one but Satan.

Satan had a final kick out of Heaven, our flesh will have final ride to a final resting place, but your spirit will also go to a final resting place, will it also be a place of everlasting darkness or a heavenly mansion?

The harvest is ready, plenteous, but we have the wrong focus. The laborers are few, because they are barren. They do not have what is needed for hard labor. They see their fellow brothers and sisters in their past states, not where God has brought them. See them as they are now, not as Satan accuses them to be. They have gone on with the Lord, and have godliness with contentment and searching for the riches of their choice and you have lost a crown with the Lord because you could not get past them. Your mind, your body and your soul are precious commodities and God wants it all.

Just who do you think you are?

Jesus in the text was being asked by Pilate, Whence art thou, or where did you come from? Jesus did not say a word, but just listened or just ignored him. Sometime we need to learn to be quiet and just let the Devil talk. Jesus knew from whence he came and to where he wad going. He was not just disrespecting him by not answering, he just did not have anything to justify. I can only imagine that this angered Pilate and he took authority and spoke with the power that he thought he was in possession of. Do you refuse to speak to me? Do you not realize that I have the power either to free you or to crucify you? Jesus answered him; you have no power of me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore, the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin. Sometime we think we have power over God’s people, but we do not. We think that we can handle them any kind of way and God is sleep, but he is not. God will avenge our enemies, he will lift up a standard against them, and he will even deliver them into our hands. Satan did not think that crucifying Jesus was putting man right back in his loving arms. Where does your power lie? You can only be born again to receive the power from God that you need to continue in this way.

The same judgment you put someone in is reciprocated as a seed sown. Remember just who you are.
