What is it you can give this Christmas?

Is Christmas a time when we give only what's material? Is it a time when we only eat together or have merriment? Is the practice of Christmas traditions simply like staring in a mirror where we're reminded of what we desire?

The deeper answer, I believe, is "No." If it were only those, Christmas would be a practice of emptiness and illusion. Sadly though, this is where most people seem to be. Most appear to "celebrate Christmas but cannot be found there." In other words, people join the festivity of Christmas, but this does not necessarily reflect what Christmas is really all about.

2000 years ago, Someone came to save humankind. His name is Jesus. His birth leads us to discover the true value of life. And it is the living reality of that discovery more than the excitement of traditional Christmas parties which brings us to fresh hope, direction, and meaning in our lives.

Because of His coming, we can now see what's priceless to consider giving this Christmas. Forgiveness, for instance, is one priceless gift we can offer this Christmas. Christmas is not only the season for giving; it is also the season for forgiving. By forgiving, we grant others as well as ourselves peace of mind by being more understanding and accepting. What better way to make a better Christmas!

Thus, while Christmas may be a time of festivity, it is also the time for grace. It is not only a place where there may be dancing or eating; it is also the place of warmth and embrace that is beyond what we see. But this we're only able to do so in the presence of the loving Christ of Christmas.
