A lot of people have the habit of putting aside to a later time what needs to be done. They delay acting upon a project, job, or responsibility.

Let's just take the case of repair work typically needed at home. It equates to other circumstances as well. A leak on the roof may not be harmful if it doesn't rain. But once it rains, the extent of damage is more than can be imagined. Procrastinating doesn't help.

Procrastination, I suppose, is one of the most difficult habits to beat. We procrastinate for different reasons:

1.) When we regard something that we're busy with as more important
2.) When things needed inthe work are not complete or available yet
3.) When we do not like or enjoy what we're supposed to do
4.) When we are not sure if the work that needs to be done will be effective
5.) When we forget about it

Of course, there are many other reasons. We procrastinate when we're lazy or a combination of the above.

Hard to beat as it is, we stand to gain more and virtually lose nothing if we overturn this habit.

Let me give a few suggestions:

1.) When we think a job can afford to be delayed, let's also think that it can also afford not to be delayed. Having the work done right away without delay brings a sigh of relief that makes us feel better and lighter.

2.) After being too busy about something and you have spare time, we can use this spare time to equally important things that are being delayed.

3.) If we're not sure about what to do, we may seek advice from knowledgeable people. Procrastinating won't help.

4.) Delayed work due to incomplete items will remain delayed unless we fill in the incomplete items. Again, procrastinating won't help.

It's understandable that "starting" to get a job done when you feel lazy is the most difficult part. However, if you prod yourself to get started, half of the job is already done and the second half will be easy.

Friend, the next time you feel like procrastinating, picture yourself as a prisoner with a pending court case. You have a pending case wherein justice being delayed results to justice being denied.
