When you hear the news on television, radio, or other forms of media, one can easily get disheartened. There are always things to be depressed about. Our senses are always bombarded by negative, tragic news.

Political instability. Economic downturn. Tsunami. SARS. AIDS. Wars. Famine. Child abuse. Violent crimes. Hurricanes. Bird flu. Terrorist threats. Racial and ethnic strife. Volcanic eruptions. Floods. Family breakdowns. The list is endless!

This being so, how do you remain positive in the midst of a seemingly negative world? We can discover the good that can come out of the "evil." We can take steps to grow by learning the lessons of life that tragedy may produce.

Let me offer here a list of some "lessons" that can come out when tragedy strikes in our life. Reflect on each one and see how it applies to your experience.

1.) Tragedy can bring out the best in you.

2.) Tragedy can unite or bind people into one.

3.) Tragedy can put matters into clearer and proper perspective.

4.) Tragedy can help you discover a hidden power, ability, or potential within you.

5.) Tragedy can raise our awareness of other people around us.

6.) Tragedy can help us learn the habit of looking at the good in everything, no
matter how distressing things have become.

7.) Tragedy can make you see that what you suffer may pale in comparison to what
others experience.

8.) Tragedy can awaken one's spirituality.

Friend, have you been experiencing personal tragedies or crises in your life right now? Are they wreaking havoc on you? Do you see the good that can come out of these bad things happening to you? Are you able to use these tragedies to forge your character and be the person you are meant to be?

Remember that, in this life, after a tsunami of tragedy, there is always a tsunami of hope. In the rebuilding process, it's this hope that energizes things to get better off than they were before!
