And He Still Wants Me

This essay will be for everyone who thinks they are worthy to be before God. Before you close it down and shut it out. Let me say that you absolutely do deserve that awesome encounter. But lets not forget for a single nanosecond, that it is not because of anything you have or will ever accomplish.
I will use the Barlow Girl song, I Need You to Love Me. as a foundation, and inspiration for this writing. The song opens with a question, humbling in its content, Why are You still here with me? The answers, the true answers, simply are, there is no good determination as to why. We are by every means of introspection unworthy, colored by shame desperate to run and hide. But followers will rejoice in the fact that we serve a Lord who will not let us alone in our despair. For as the feeling of embarrassment, frustration and loneliness overcome us, we are lifted up by this truth. The truth is that we are not worthy, not deserving of anything, certainly not worthy of an all loving, all forgiving God.
And as we hit rock bottom, we look to the Lord and cry out that we need Him to love us. We make whatever promises we can, knowing that we will never keep them, we promise not to try and keep our heart from Him, and that we will stop pretending that we actually can deserve what we already have. Look at what you already have, given to us by Him and then tell me that you deserve any of it. You don’t, and He knows it. SO much time has been wasted, pushing God further from us. If we can truly see how damaging we have been to our relationship with Him, none of us could stand to know how He could ever cherish us.
It is the next part of this lyrical salvation that actually is the inspiration for these thoughts. “Cause You’re a God who has all things”, imagine for a moment, the Creator of any and all that we know, God already has. It is all His. It is not the biggest toys for the biggest boys idea, that there always is more to be had. This is the ultimate, who has ALL things. So we don’t get lost in the enormity of that concept, take a breath here.
“Cause You’re a God who has all things…..and You still want me”……. God, the Master of the Universe He alone created, wants you. Maybe we should all read the phrase again putting our own name in place of the “me”, in that sentence. Maybe we all need to see that personalized, with our own name. He still want YOU, no matter where you are, no matter the depth of your sins. For He gave us His One and Only Son to die on the Cross of Salvation so that we could live free from all that shames us into wanting to run and hide.
The final lines of this song, do a great job in summing it up,
Your love makes me forget what I have been
Your love makes me see who I really am
Your love makes me forget what I have been……
I just want to quantify something, it is absolutely true that His love makes us forget who we have been, and to see who we really are but just as important is that His love also is Him forgetting who we have been….and that is why we need Him to love us………amen.

Thank you for sharing this inspiration with us. Thomas
