The Winding Road
When I looked into your eyes,
let me tell you what I found --
You didn’t know the road you’re on
would turn, then come unwound.
It led you through a valley.
Some call that valley “Despair.”
But you learned to hope in your God
while you were walking there.
Then, it sat you on a hill
and there, you could see the way.
There, you found a vision of truth
and learned how you should pray.
Oh, but slipping and sliding,
you were surely led back down
to teach you that you can’t depend
on high, mountainous ground.
The wilderness is shady
and it’s so easy to find.
It snickers "Life is cruel.
It's lonely and unkind."
But you weren’t left alone there.
God led you through to the end.
It is there you discovered Jesus
to be your Faithful Friend.
Now, He leads you to waters,
so still and peaceful and clear.
You hear Him whispering to you,
“Come, Beloved. Draw near.”
Ask me how I know these things.
I’m no mystic; that is true.
But this, my friend, is what I see
there, deep inside of you.
If the eyes are the mirrors
to the soul, then look at me.
I’ve walked a winding road as well.
I see just what I see.
