The Twilight Hour

Wakened in the twilight hour,
not by might, nor mine own power,
and yet, my thoughts are turned to you --
The longing void beyond my breast
clings tightly there and finds no rest.
“Mercy” trembles o’er my lips anew.

Though I cry “Thy will be done”
upon the rising of the sun,
my soul dost thirst for thine heart still --
not that love of my brother dear,
but that which most I’ve grown to fear,
though it hast quickened my quiv’ring quill.

Must I go home for to find
true freedom from this heart o’ mine?
Easy could it lead me astray;
For, the twilight hours, I’ve known,
belong to God, and Him alone.
I would my heart be released today.

Though I tried, Love, to disguise
awe of that wonder to mine eyes,
you saw it too, in highest heights,
yet did not know what ‘twas to me,
nor what I prayed that I might see --
'Twas a flaming em'rald for our sights.

Ne’er again will I request,
lest, with my lips, my God I test,
a sign that thou hast loved me too;
For, in this fish’s belly, Dear,
I found that which I most did fear --
oh, mine heart forever bound to you.

The gift God has given you is truly a magnificent gift. I’ve never read poetry with more inspiration or pure beauty. God has blessed you with a unique talent, it has a drawing power to your work through Him. What a wonderful poem this was.

Out of your heart comes magnificent words of beauty depicting a broken heart and a longing of the soul for her true love, which seems so far out of reach, like a shooting emerald. Love, Sharon
