“You are the Branches”

Oh, such a fine, fine line
between humility and pride,
when I say I’ve been broken,
that I’ve been bruised,
that I’ve cried.

As You peel back layer
after layer of selfish need
and expose the tender shoots
of a heart healed
by Your Seed,

I find that my desires
have kept me wanting and without.
They fall away, leaving nothing --
an empty pot,
not one doubt.

Therefore, I welcome You;
Come shake and prune me yet again,
taking away another part
of long dead fruit
from within,

to leave nothing but Love,
Your Spirit -- all I’ll ever need,
so Your righteousness will abound
in the new shoots
that You feed.

May the Vinedresser, He who prunes me for His Namesake, be glorified. Glorify Your Name, Father. I pray in the blessed Name of Your Only Begotten Son, my glorious and wonderful Savior, Lord of my life and Healer of my heart, Messiah and Immanuel, the only Vine from which I can find nourishment for eternal life, The Rock from which I am hewn, The Vine from which I thrive, He who holds me in the palm of His ever-merciful hand, He whose sandal straps I am unworthy to loose, Jesus of Nazareth, my First Love.
