This Do In Remembrance Of Me

I just returned from out church’s bi-annual observance of The Lord’s Supper and I have never been more blessed than tonight. We have a very reverent service and only observe twice per year; before Easter and before Thanksgiving. This is to keep it Holy, so it does not become something we do without really thinking about what it means. Also, we do not want to partake unworthily as the scripture admonishes so we take the time to examine our own hearts. I Corinthians chapter 11, verses 28-30 of the King James says:
“But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.”

As my Pastor read the scripture, the words came alive to me like never before and seemed to leap off the page. I was so moved, I could not control the overflow of tears that ran down my face. I have never experienced such emotion in my life. Tonight, everything my Lord went though for me became so close and so real to me all over again. I have observed The Lord’s Supper many times before but tonight was different. It was almost like Jesus’ body was up on the cross right in front of me - His presence was so powerful. I think Christ knew that is exactly what I needed to re-submit my life to Him. I needed to "Remember."

Do we remember with our hearts what Jesus did or do we get complacent and only have the “head knowledge” of it? Do we reverence His selfless act the way we should? I think it sometimes becomes a “tradition” to observe The Lord’s Supper and we tend to forget what really happened at the cross. Christ said “This do in remembrance of Me.” I pray we all, as Christians come to the place in our hearts where the cross becomes so powerful to us that we can do nothing less than submit our whole being to Christ for His wonderful love for us. I pray this for all of my brothers and sisters in Christ, for you right now reading this piece. May God richly bless your heart and make the cross real all over again this Easter season.

Take, eat, this is my body,

Which is broken for you
This do in remembrance of Me

This cup is the new testament
In My blood;
This do ye, as oft as ye drink it,
In remembrance of Me

Thank you, Jesus for opening my eyes tonight. Thank you for shedding Your precious blood and allowing Your sinless body to be broken for me, so I could be healed from sin and myself. May I never get complacent in my love for you. Thank you, Jesus for loving me that much……
