I suppose you've heard of the hypochondriac who died and asked
that this be put on his tombstone: "I told you I was sick!"

As we honored Memorial Day, some of us visited cemeteries to
pay respect to those we love but are gone. During the visit, you
probably browsed through the cemetery reading the epitaphs on
the tombstones.

As you read these epitaphs, did you give any thought to what you
would prefer as your epitaph? Do you have it recorded
somewhere so your descendents will know your wishes? I must
confess that I don't, but I probably should. I honestly don't know
what I want for my epitaph. I'm always asking little kids that I
meet, "Hey kid, I'll trade you hair! (I'm bald)" I've kidded Betty
about putting that on my tombstone, but I'm not serious.

When you are gone, what will people remember about you? Take
a minute right now and seriously think about that. If you are
afraid that the memories may not be as positive as you'd like,
there is still time to correct the image. We each know what needs
to be changed.

The most important epitaph ever written is, "He is not here -- he
is risen." And because He is, we who have confessed our faith in
Christ, we also will rise to be with Him eternally. Maybe that
would be a good epitaph for us.

Col. 3:1 (nlt), "Since you have neen raised to new life with
Christ, set your sights on the realities of Heaven where Christ sits
at God's right hand in the place of honor and power, " -- waiting
for you and me. Vs 2, "Let Heaven fill your thoughts. Do not
think only about things down here on earth." Good advice!
