On our recent trip I saw a neat new fancy Jaguar car with this
license plate: MD CARES. I would have been more likely to
believe the statement if the plate had been on a Ford Focus.

I have a nice background tape for a beautiful song called "Yes,
Jesus cares. He cares when your heartaches. Take Him your
heavy burdens. Yes, my Jesus cares." It's such a beautiful song
that I think I'll arrange it for our choir. It is not just the music that
is beautiful, the words are what are the most impressive.

Lately, I've been analyzing TV preachers. Sometimes the
preachers that impress folks the most are the ones who offer an
exciting phenomenal delivery but with a weak message content.
It's just like merchandising in a store, it's the packaging that often
sells a mediocre product. Christian music can fall into the same
pattern. We need to be more discerning and insist on quality
content -- we are too easily impressed with packaging.

Jesus comes in a meek package without fanfare or showmanship
but with intense sincerity. He simply says, "Come to me, all of
you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you
rest" (Matt. 11:28 nlt). Yes, Jesus does care. That's a message
that doesn't need glitz!
