For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 NIV

God wants us to work hard as we can see in the scripture above. Jesus was about His Father’s business. Paul worked hard with his hands to avoid being dependent on other Christians.
Sluggards are encouraged to go to the ants, consider their ways and be wise. They maximise their time and gather at the right time. They do not wait to be pushed.


Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones.
Learn from their ways and be wise!

Even though they have no prince, governor,
or ruler to make them work,
they labor hard all summer,
gathering food for the winter.

Proverbs 6:6-8 NLT

However whilst working hard we must pause from time to time to reflect upon the fruit of our toil or labour. If all we do is run around from pillar to post, helter skelter and have nothing to show for it then we are working hard but not working smart. God wants to deliver us from fruitless labour.
Jesus wants us to bear fruit and to have fruit that endure, remain, multiply even long after we have gone home to be with the Lord. Only God can bring that about. And the key to bearing such fruit is to abide in Him and letting His word abide in you.

Operation outside your calling will be frustrating. However we do not all start operating in our calling from day 1 of our walk with the Lord. Some of us go in circles like the Israelites-0 doing what may appear unrelated to our calling until such a time as the Lord sees fit to promote us to our first estate. God has a way of preparing us even when we are doing the menial mundane tasks. He also prepares us by making us work under others who may be our juniors in age or even accomplishments.

So what is your assessment of your productivity? Give thanks for the areas here you have been very productive.
Where you have not seen fruit or enough fruit as you should, commit it into God’s hand and trust Him for a New Beginning.-0 an era of fruitfulness.
Ask Him to show you what to do. Be creative. Be flexible. Expect a change.

Let us pray:
Father,
We thank you that it is your will that we bear fruit and that our fruit should remain, be generational, giving glory and honour to you the Living God. Teach us to abide in you and your word in us. Teach us Lord to be smart workers, to make the most of the moment that you give us redeeming the time in theses last days.
Help us Lord to be about our Father’s business, to go out carrying and sowing precious seeds assured that we will doubtless return, bringing sheaves of great harvest.
Lord, guide us by your spirit in our investment decision. Lead us in our decisions concerning your calling in our lives. May we be good stewards trading with the talents you have given us and gaining more and more. Help us not to envy others but thank you for what you have made us and the gift you have deposited inside of us. May we identify these gifts and fan them ablaze to your glory and praise.
