There is a paper I use to draw designs that can be used for several mediums when they are done, all marked off in squares with blue ink they invite you to fill in the spaces one by one.

Up close the pattern has no apparent design, it looks like random bits of color to the eye, but when you take it and translate it into beads or thread, the very change is what makes the design appear, like words that just needed to be read.

Thinking of this made me think of the patterns of our lives, each day God gives us a new paper marked off in squares, each one a minute to fill up with what we choose, making our own design using His pattern, putting colors here and there.

We can't see the final picture as we fill each little square in, for we're too close to see the whole design, we just work with each space, filling it with what we have to give from within.

I would fill in the background of my design in each day with a warm pink-red glow borrowed from the rising sun's rays, and then I'd sprinkle the calm blue taken from the sky, to be the hope that we have in each new thing that we try.

And green from the leaves and grass from the plants that grow all around, would add its freshness to the pattern, splashed here and there like bits of joy I have found.

I would borrow drops from a rainbow to fill in the blanks, and over it all I would spread happiness and a thousand prayers of thanks.

When the day is done, the pattern is still a mystery to me, but oh the joy in the living of each little space has set me free.

I thank God for the mercies He gives me new every day, and a new pattern to fill in however I may; and for the love He has given me to share in filling each square with a beautiful hue, a picture of love that I cherish because it's of you!
