I remember as a child when I first saw my shadow, not knowing the sun brought it to be; I thought it was a silent little friend sent to follow me.

At times it was in front leading the way, sometimes it lagged far behind, and the times I liked best were when it was just by my side, the closest companion that I could find.

When the sun was not shining, my shadow-friend went away, gone like it had never been, until the sky cleared and the light brought back my shadow-friend again.

This reminds me of how I was before I met you, like a cloudy day without end, for the sun did not shine in my world back then, it was gray and lonely, with few friends.

I hid from them all, I built up my walls, and I stayed behind them locked in fear; and never thought that it would ever be different; that there was a place full of light oh so near.

One day at my lowest, I cried out to God, oh could you please help me - I am so weighed down by troubles and cares, can You be the One to set me free?

It wasn't much of a prayer, there was scant faith in the saying, but it was enough for Jesus to hear, and that's all it took for Him to move in, sweeping my heart clean, and gently wiping away my tears.

He showed me how to trust again, to have faith if I always looked to Him, and if I did, my path would be clear, my life full to the brim.

I read His word, and followed His lead, and all this time, my secret God knew, that there was a dream, a desire of my heart, that I didn't think would ever come true.

But God had saved this best blessing till last, to give me a love so true; He fulfilled my wish, he gave me my dream the day that I met you.

Now I know that shadows don't really go away, it's the sun that makes them appear, and every moment we're together, we're not ever alone, for God's shadow is always near.

When times get hard and the clouds are all around, we know that God is still in the lead; if we trust in Him and stay close to each other, we'll always have everything we need.

Just as God is as close as a shadow to us; that is how we also should be, for we are always linked so closely together, love entwines us and still sets us free.
