SAY SAY SAY

What do you think of, when you hear the words “say,say,say”? If you are a baby boomer, as I am, you may remember this is the title of a song written by Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles and Wings fame. Let me assure you, that these words are much deeper in meaning and come from a much greater source of inspiration. The source is the Lord, Jehovah, Yahweh, El Shaddai, The Great I AM. The words I am referring to are found in the gospels. Matthew 17:20 “…If you have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible for you.” Matthew 21:21 “…but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.” Mark 11:23 “…That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” I don’t know about you, but I have noticed when studying the Word of God, some things are said once, and others are said multiple times. And, while all are important, I really pay attention, when God chooses to repeat himself, as He did in the previously quoted verses.

There is power in the spoken word. Genesis 1:3 “Then God said”; vs.9 “Then God said”; vs.11 “Then God said”; vs.14 “Then God said”; vs.20 “Then God said”; vs.24 “Then God said”; vs.26 “Then God said.” Count them; seven times the term “God said” is used in creation. By the way, the seventh “God said” is when he created us in His image. The spoken word is full of both creative power and destructive power. God spoke and created the earth and all that is in it. Elijah prayed aloud (spoke), and the heavens did not give their rains for three years. Elishah “spoke” a curse, and a she-bear killed the mocking youths. We are told in Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”

In Matthew 4:4-10 we have the testimony of how Jesus overcame Satan. Three times it is recorded Jesus “said”. Jesus is our example. If Jesus had to speak out-loud to Satan, then we must also speak out-loud. “…and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11). The original Greek word used for “word” is “logos”. “Logos” has it’s root in the Greek “lego”, which is the word translated in Matthew 4:4-10, where Jesus spoke to Satan.

Yes, we must have faith. Believe in the promises of God and in the trustworthiness of the promise giver, but we must also speak to the mountains in our lives. These mountains are hindrances to all that God has for us: health, soundness of mind, spiritual maturity and prosperity.

We must be careful to watch the words that come out of our mouths, the confession of our mouths. Matthew 12:34-35 “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” vs.35 “A good man out of the treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things…” Simply said, we will speak, or confess, what we have in our hearts. If our hearts are filled with the promises of God and the truth of His Word, then that is what we will speak. As a result, we will bring forth good things. The psalmist wrote “Thy word have I hid in mine heart…” Psalm 119:11. In Psalm 19:14 we read “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” We read His Word, thus hiding it in our hearts. We then meditate on His words. And finally we speak His words. The fruit of our lips, spoken in faith, will bring about their intended outcome. God will be glorified, and we will live fruitful, or fruit-filled, lives. Remember you will have what you “say”.

You must say, say, say!!!!!
