“A Dwelling Place Fit for a King”

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
to which indeed you were called in the one body.
And be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).


If you are told you’ll be hosting the holiday dinner, what runs automatically through your mind? At the very least you’d probably try to conger up the best menu your hands can cook and then you’d fuss and fret for weeks over the appearance of your home. You start off by cleaning the house a couple weeks in advance. Day after day, you work up a sweat to ensure that the floors are shined, the curtains are cleaned, and the windows are scrubbed; not a spec of dust on the furniture or any decorative nick-knacks to be seen. You clean the house from top to bottom, and when you’re done, you’d probably even tackle at the yard and landscaping outside.

If you would go to all this trouble for your friends and family, what must you do to prepare for the Lord’s coming? In the eyes of the God, however, your house is not the home that He desires to visit. It is your body that is the temple for the living God, and your heart is the room that He longs to dwell in. To what length are you willing to prepare and make clean the King’s dwelling place? Perhaps it has been a long time since a light shined bright in His room and now there are many cobwebs of hatred and clutters of resentments hiding in the darkness. What else might you have harboring in that darkness? Examine your heart, and make clean the dwelling place so that it’s worthy for a King. Take care not to procrastinate, for evil things grow quickly in the dark, and you will never know when your King will be knocking on His temple’s door.
