“God Makes Us Right Again”
Friday, March 4, 2005 †

“And the harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace” (James 3:18).


God did not create us to be content in our natural condition. In one way or another, to one degree or another, we all want more than we have now. Choose to not know God and our souls will thirst eternally. But seek out the One who offers us drink from the river of life and our whole being will be quenched forever. For God has spoken, “whoever drinks of the water that I shall give … will never thirst” (John 4:14).

But empty souls are always thirsty. Not thirsty for wealth, fame, passion, or love. We’ve drawn from those wells before. They are wells of salt water in the desert. They don’t quench - They kill.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness….”

Righteousness. That’s it. That’s what we are thirsty for. We’re thirsty for a clean conscience. We crave a clean slate. We yearn for a fresh start. We pray for a hand that will enter the dark basements of our world and to do for us the one thing we can’t do for ourselves – make us right again.

…and so we remember pray, “Create in me a pure heart, God, and make my spirit right again” (Psalm 51:10).
