“Humility for Grace”

"Since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to Him," (Romans 12:1).


We are only human. I am saying this as a fact, and not as another convenient excuse. To be human means to be fallible, to know right from wrong but still occasionally choosing the unrighteous. And our Creator knows this about us. He is the one that gave us life after all. He not only knows this, but He anticipates it, He expects it. So we really have no excuse to try to cover up our mistakes, to deny our sins.

But today everyone becomes their own Pope. Everyone becomes their own god. And God forbid that you would try to defy the god that’s in me! The degree of our shame is the degree of our pride. The degree of our sorrow is the degree of our love. How ashamed are we for our sins? How sorry are we when we sin against God? How much do we love God? Do we love Him enough to fess up to it when we mess up? Or do we rationalize it? Or, do we use society’s euphemism to hide the fact that it is an ugly sin? Like if we gave it a name like euthanasia, or mercy killing then it is justified. No! If we are going to sin, own up to it. Tell God and then ask Him genuinely for forgiveness. Remember, He anticipated this. He knew we were fallible. Come back to God with all your heart. His arms are extended as broad as that of the Father on the prodigal son’s return. He doesn’t care how bad it was, or how big it was, nor how long and how many times you did it!

Sin confuses the mind. They blind us. If you want to be blind and confused, then go ahead and keep on sinning. But don’t blame the Commandments for giving you boundaries to live within. Don’t hate the Church or hate Jesus because they challenge you and make you feel guilty. That guilt might just be what saves us.

It is time that we stop blaming everyone and everything else around us for our shortcomings and downfalls. If we stand humbly before God and tell Him we are sorry, He will gladly erase all. He would extend His arms wide and smile so lovingly, that we would have no doubt our Father has forgiven us and welcomed us back home.
