Healing
“Jesus, Fill Me Up!”
Tuesday, May 31, 2005 †
“Brothers, I for my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead,” (Philippians 3:13).
Every experience in our lives molds our personalities and makes us who we are. God knows this, that is why He continually shines His divine light upon all that is good in us, so that we can remember we are capable of doing good deeds, and so that we can remember we are His children. Unfortunately, Satan knows this as well. He knows what our weaknesses are, he knows the things we have done wrong, and who we resent because they have done wrong to us. Satan knows all these negative experiences of our lives and he hides them in dark places and brings them to our attention each time we are ready to forgive someone who hurt us, or forgive ourselves for what we have done. Because of this, we need to pray to God more than ever to shine His light into those dark places, bring our shames into the light so that they may be erased and shame us no more.
We all need inner healing to some degree. Perhaps we may need inner healing for a fear that has been with us since our childhood. As adults we try to use our intellect to reason away our fears, but the heaviness of the fear drags us down. “For God will break the chains that bind His people and the whip that scourges them” (Isaiah 9:4 TLB).
Perhaps you need inner healing because you have lost a parent through death, or have been separated from them at some past age because of whatever reason. A lot of adults do not know how to love themselves, or have problems showing their love for another in a relationship, or they have problems committing their love to God … all because they were not loved themselves as a child. If you open your heart and let God in, He will fill your heart with love. He can show you the true power of love which was demonstrated for us through His Son.
Perhaps you need inner healing because of who you are. You were born into a family where you were unloved, or you were raised in a home where there was constant fighting, or maybe one of your parents was an alcoholic and you had to endure the tragedies of that lifestyle. Let God live in you so that you can be reminded that you are a child of God, and your heavenly Father loves you dearly.
Perhaps you may need inner healing because of what you have done, or where you have been. Maybe you committed a crime, or hurt someone you love and you can’t make up for it because you are overcome with disgrace and the person you hurt has since past away. Maybe you have been in a horrible accident and the scars it left are both physical and emotional. The hurt is way too deep for you to even lift your head and look towards tomorrow. The Bible says, "and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more,” (Hebrews 10:17). Or as 1John 1:9 records it, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Whatever your experiences may be, whatever pains you have suffered, “Jesus [wants to] heal [our] brokenhearted, and binds up [our] wounds,” (Psalm 147:3). He wants to fill the void in our lives with His everlasting love. He wants to set us free from all bondages where we can truly be made whole.
