“The Other Retirement Plan”
Wednesday, March 2, 2005 †
“And this is eternal life, that they know thee the
only true God, and Jesus Christ who thou hast sent” (John 17:3).
Roth IRA, 401K and/or other investment plans…
Chances are in today’s life we each have at least one retirement plan that we are contributing to so that a comfortable life awaits us after the hard working years are over. We even know to start saving early at a young age so that the account would be more lucrative when we’re ready. But since there is a chance of loosing as much as there is of gaining, we take great care to research, study and invest in the right element. However, no matter if we manage to accumulate a large sum or not, eventually all lives does come to an end; and the money saved will be meaningless in our next life. Therefore knowing this, shouldn’t we be as concerned and meticulous to prepare a “retirement plan” for our soul’s retirement life?
Do not assume that your seat in heaven is guaranteed because you are a Christian or a Good Samaritan. For Jesus said, “…those who are now last will be first, and those who are now first will be last” (Luke 13:30). Therefore, contribute to God’s retirement plan for you so that you today so that you may have eternal life in heaven. Contribute to your soul’s “retirement plan” by doing things like: aiding a stranger in need, feeding the hungry, clothing the homeless, helping the helpless and you will be blessed, because they are not able to pay you back. Friends, relatives and rich neighbors will return your favor; and though it is said ‘love your friends and hate your enemies’ Jesus tells you instead to, “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Mathew 5:43). Why should God reward you if you only love those who love you? Even the sinners can love those who love them; and if you speak only to your friends, have you done anything out of the ordinary?
Invest in your retirement plan with God today, because the door to heaven is narrow and though many people will surely try to get in, not everyone will be able. “Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth where moths and rust destroy and robbers break in and steal. Instead, store up your riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal. For your heart will always be where your riches are” (Mathew 6:19-21).
