I have seen the sunrise come like thunder
Over the edge of the brazen earth,
And in the first faint trace of silver
I have heard the gasping of the day,
The crying of creation in the pangs of birth.

In the cool, damp moment of deliverance,
When the aching pain was forced to flee,
I have seen the triumph of long patience,
Of perserverance in dark bondage
Till a struggling hope was finally set free.

Then the sun in victor's robes strode bravely
Surely across the awakening sky,
I have seen that everything around me
Also braved the day's deep challenge
To live and never ask the reason why.

And as the golden splendor slipped away
And darkened earth resumed its rest,
I have seen and known the God in heavan,
That as surely as the day will follow night,
His way on earth is always best.
