Brokenhearted


My heart broke a little bit more today
It’s a beautiful shade of blue.
A little fissure has gotten bigger and bigger,
I feel like it’s being broken in two.
The feeling of pain inside this body of flesh
Nearly caused me to drop to the ground,
A knot was forming inside my throat
The depth of despair left me so empty within.
I opened my mouth, but without uttering a sound.

The dam finally broke again
And the cascading river of tears began to flow,
Recalling what is and what will never be;
The songs that I may never sing,
And the loneliness that fills the longest night
Brings me to a sense of urgency.

My heart is overwhelmed by emotions
That cause the tears to tumble down
Like a cascading waterfall
Into the turbulent waters below;
I feel so alone, even though I know
That God’s Spirit is with me.
Every thought, every step, I feel, is made alone.
Alone with my thoughts,
My mind is rambling and trying to hold on
Through the anxiety that seems
To want to entrap me down to the very core.

Heal my heart, O Lord.
I yearn for Your touch and comfort
For my spirit, soul, and body.
Turn my mourning into joyful singing.
And with my tongue with praises of joy.
