I am amazed at how often people forward items that are clearly
identified by truthorfiction.com as being a hoax. If it sounds
believable, folks will forward it without checking its veracity with
truthorfiction.com or any of the other hoax buster sites on the
Internet. O how gullible we are.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, because the same thing happens all
the time to weaker Christians who are not students of the Word.
These folks are easy prey for the cults who come along with
believable half-truths and an offer of genuine friendliness. Folks
allow themselves to be drawn in by the cults because they do not or
do not know how to check the hoax against the truth.

Just as Internet users need to check possible hoaxes with
authoritative sources, so do Christians need to check "every wind
of doctrine" with authentic sources. We need to be on our guard
and know God's Word in order to be safe from those who come
with slick presentations and smooth tongues -- the TV screen and
radio waves have plenty of them, so be careful and don't be misled.

Take heed to Eph. 4 starting at vs. 13 (nlt), "...that we will be
mature and full grown in the Lord...that we will no longer be like
children, forever changing our minds about what we believe
because someone has told us something different or because
someone has cleverly lied to us (just like web hoaxes) and made
the lie sound like the truth." Be grounded in God's always truthful
Word.
