The Great Hunter!

The opening day of Bow Season last year led me to C.F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area. It is a 4000+ acre piece of land open to the public.
I had gotten out of the car, gotten my gear out and took a reading with my compass so I would know the way back to the car. Then I headed out into uncharted territory.
I walked slowly back deep into the woods, found a good tree to sit under and waited for what might come along. Like the good hunter I am, I ended up taking a long nap. The nap is always the favorite part of the hunt.
A noise woke me up, I never did figure out what the noise was. So I got up and started walking in the direction I thought I had just come from. I quickly figured out that it was the wrong direction.
That wasn’t a problem, I had my compass! I took it out and took a reading. Something was wrong. My compass was broken!
I wasn’t hunting anymore! I was deep in the woods and had to find my way out! I looked around, took my best guess and headed out in the most likely direction.
Some how I walked into a thick briar patch and got stuck. I couldn’t move! I was stuck there, well over an hour, trying to get out. I started having thoughts of having to spend the night in the woods lost!
A fox meandered by and saw me in my predicament. I’m sure it was a hilarious sight! That fox probably went back to it’s buddies and said, “You’ll never guess what I saw!”
I eventually got out of that thicket; (I’m not sure how). I was covered with scratches and thorns, but I got out! I kept on traveling another couple hundred yards and came out to a road and a Game Warden!
The Game Warden said, “I’ve been watching you for a while now from this hill with my binoculars!” With a funny smile on his face, he said “I thought I was going to have to come down and get you out of that thicket!” I was relieved to see him, but very embarrassed that he had seen all my antics.
The Game Warden graciously gave me directions back to my car. I was still over a mile away from my car! What a day!

2000 years ago, another man, named Jesus, (the Son of God) was up on a hill called Calvary. He looked down and saw how lost we were and the terrible predicament we were in. So because He loved us, He rescued us by dying on a cross for us. He took all the scars, all the pain and all our punishment on Himself so that we might have life!

Hebrews 12:2 says “Look to Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross”.

I pray that we look to Jesus as our true compass. With him as our compass, we will not get lost!
