I Can’t Touch That

Colossians 2:21

Touch not, taste not, handle not

It’s things in this life that God has prohibited us from having any dealings with. The legalism associated with this verse is largely negative in nature because man always has a habit of loving to do what he has been prohibited from doing. They have a strong will not to obey what God has said in his word. It would seem that they just have not or are they willing to die to the world. We live in a loose society in a loose world. They have balanced God’s do and don’ts both positively and negatively. Wherever his word fit for the moment that is the way they go. However the wind blows is fine with them. Christians has also fell into this mode of thinking, whereby causing them to stand in the way of sinners and sit in the seat of the scornful.

God say touch not, taste not, feel not, see not the unclean things, but you can touch Jesus, you can feel him, you can see him and you can even taste him if you seek him and get in right relationship with him. He is so sweet to smell, so soft to touch, so tasteful to taste and awesome to feel. Touching him is to touch eternity. If you touch Jesus you will have him forever. It’s for eternity.

It’s things that you are not to speak. James 3:10 says out of the same mouth proceed blessings and cursing, my brethren these things ought not so to be.

Don’t call good evil
Speak no evil; out of your mouth, evil communications corrupt good manners.
Speak only those things that are sound doctrine.
Speak life into your situations and conditions.
Speak those things that, be not as though they were.

You can resist these things, James 4:7 says; submit yourself therefore to God, resist the Devil and he will flee from you. When you go to touch the unclean thing it should be as something stink to you. When you taste something that you are not suppose to, it should be nasty in your mouth. When you feel something you should not, it should not feel right. When you see some things that you know is wrong, correct it or turn you head away from it, but resist the temptation of submitting yourself to it. Sometime we joke too much or do too much foolishness. We do not consider that when we do these things, we know it is wrong, and to him that know it is sin. James 4:17 say therefore to him that knows to do good, and do it not, to him it is sin.




I Peter 2:11b say to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against your soul. Submitting to the wrong things can destroy your soul. How can God make you into what he has called you to be when you are seeking after the things of the world and not considering Jesus that have called you out. You must give up your desires for things that take you away from God’s word. Flee fornication (voluntary sexual intercourse between two unmarried persons or two persons not married to each other), all uncleanness (things physically unclean, morally impure, or ceremonially unfit), covetousness (desiring someone else’s property wrongfully), filthiness (moral impurities or corruption, vulgar or obscene language), foolish talking, jesting, which are not convenient, whoremongers (someone that prostitutes themselves), idolatry (the religious worship of idols), because none of this stuff should be named among those that call themselves saints. When we commit such things, the wrath of God comes upon us. For God will judge your sin. It is a time of repentance, just like he gave Jezebel before he pronounced judgment on her. So we see that it is unprofitable for us to commit these things and act like we are so righteous, for God knows where you are, he made you from the potter’s wheel.

II Peter 3:14 says wherefore beloved seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless. If you are diligent (constant in effort to accomplish something, done with perservering attention), you can accomplish those things that God says to do. Touch not, taste not, handle not, or feel or see. In seeking God for your life, if you diligently seek him you want have time to fulfill the desires and lusts of your heart. These things will be purged from you and you no longer want them to the excess that you would literally go after them. Therefore your life want be spotted or blemished leaving you blameless.

Most times because we do not have patience to wait on things to happen in our lives, we go before God and thereby causes us to touch, taste, see, handle or feel things we should not. Our untimely desires, takes us down roads that are unhealthy for us. They take us on an emotional roller costal ride. We should not be anxious for nothing. Hebrews 10:36 say, for ye have need of patience that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. It is only after you have done the will of God that you receive the promises of God. All of his promises in his word belong to us if we learn how to be patient and obey his will. In order for us to obey his word we must know what the will of the Lord is concerning us, therefore we can not only know what the word say, but we must hear what it says and do it.

Hebrews 3:7-8, Wherefore today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts as in the day of provocation. For the gospel is preached to everyone but it must profit you, being mixed with faith. You have to hear the word, not junk, trash or garbage for you are not a garbage disposal. Why let someone dump trash in you. You cannot hear every thing, flee unhealthy conversations. Evil communications corrupt good manners. It does not edify anything for you and it is not godly. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. It’s not healthy to hear him when he speaks to you no matter who he speaks through. His intent is to keep your ears stopped up so that you cannot hear God when he is speaking good wholesome words into your life to edify you.
After you have done these things just do good. I Timothy 6:18-19 that they do good, that they are rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.
Laying up for themselves, a good foundation against the time to come that they may lay hold on eternal life. You have to keep that which is committed to your trust. How ready are you to share in material things to prosper the gospel of Jesus Christ? How ready are you to share your riches willingly for his purpose? These are the good works that God is looking for. He gave his only son freely to a world that was on it’s way to Hell. He loved doing good for us, but are we willing to do good towards him. As you know it accomplishes God good pleasure. Only those of us who will overcome sin in our lives will lay hold on eternal life. We have to lay a good foundation for God in this present time as a treasure for us to enjoy in the future.

The things that God says do not touch; just do it. I Timothy 5:22 lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins; keep thyself pure. It is things in this world that God forbid us to touch in the natural as well as the spiritual. He said to not lay hands on no one to pray suddenly. You do not know the condition or state that brought that person to where he is. You may be laying hands on someone that is cursed by God because of disobedience and you are wasting precious prayer because we cannot bless any one that God has cursed. When we do we are partaking in the wrong that brought the curse. That thing carry a spirit and it will jump on you if you go beyond God. When someone is going to do wrong and you know it and willingly encourage them, you have also been a partaker of it rather you realize it or not. Do not touch on conversations that are not edifying to God but appease the flesh. Sometime because we love money, we will touch unclean things. The Bible says in I Timothy 6:10 for the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Do not let loving money cause you to err from God.
Touch not the unclean things of this life. Money is handled just as loose as the people of this world and the Church is becoming just like the world. They run after the filthy lucre and get it however they can. God is a thing of the past. He brought them to the faith, but they have left their first love.

Because we leave off God and seek after these other things, we become weary. But in II Thessalonians 3:13, it tells us not to be weary in well doing. You take on more than you can handle because God is not in what you are doing. If you do things God’s way, you can recompense to those that trouble you tribulation if you are righteous. It is just with God to repay with affliction those that are afflicting you. In II Thessalonians 1:6 seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you. If God say he will do it, he will. You do not have to touch nothing concerning you when it’s in God’s will and you give it to him. It also shows that God is a righteous judge and that we are counted worthy of the Kingdom of God. I Thessalonians 4:7 God has not called you to uncleanness, but holiness or sanctification. All of our doings should be holy, sanctified. This is God’s will for us, to be worthy in all your dealings, naturally as well as spiritually. People mimic the God in you and you will give an account for what you touch in this world.
We do not serve God by how we feel. Serving God is a duty. Because he made you, called you, anointed you, and appointed you to whatever stewardship you have, you should serve him. How can you neglect so great a salvation? You do not just happen upon the gospel, God entrusts you with his gospel. I Thessalonians 2:4 bust as men were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak not as pleasing men, but God which tries our heart. You do not speak for God like you could not be bothered. Your speech should always be with grace, seasoned with salt that you may know how ye ought to answer every man, Colossians 4:6. Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give him thanks. Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men. For he that does wrong will receive for that which he has done and God has no respect of persons. What do you bring to the kingdom of God?
