PRACTICE THOUGHT CONTROL

It is said that people generally move in the direction of their thoughts. Whatever we focus on is what we move towards. Quite often we get "caught up" in the wrong things, and if we are not careful, those out-of-focus, sinful things will lead us to destruction.

God knows how easily we get distracted, and He knows how vulnerable we can be. Proverbs 4:23 says "keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life". Throughout scriptures the words "heart" and "mind" are interchanged. God wants us to practice guarding our heart by practicing thought control. Whatever gets into your thoughts will find it's way to your heart, and ultimately will be revealed through your actions and your words.

There is a direct connection between words from your mouth and the feelings in your heart. Psalms 19:14 "Let the Words of my mouth and the meditation of my Thoughts be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer". It's been said that we should "think before we speak", but it is wiser to "ask before we act".

If we are to allow God to control our destiny, we must also allow him to control our thoughts and our actions. Practice Thought Control. Ask the Lord to renew your mind, so that the life you live in Christ will guide the path of your thoughts.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you. (Phil 4:8-9 NIV)
