As a kid I thought the quarterback was a refund. OK -- the Super
Bowl is over, so now the world can get back to normal -- if that's
possible. Did your team win or could you care less?

Speaking of teams, are you on a winning team -- God's team? Are
you a team player or do you insist on being the quarterback? It
takes a lot of team players to make a church work, and it's crucial
that the pastor is the quarterback instead of an over-zealous deacon
or other official.

When a church has a cooperating board that works with the pastor
instead of against him, God's work progresses well and people are
brought to Christ. But when there is infighting, the devil shouts for
joy. When an individual has an agenda and puts it ahead of God's
agenda, you have a classic case on non-submission to God's rule in
a church. Every official has to be willing to say, "Not my will,
Lord, but yours." Every official has to be a team player.
Tragically, it doesn't always happen.

2 Timothy 1:14 (nlt) offers some worthy advice for anyone in an
official capacity in a church -- "With the help of the Holy Spirit
who lives within us, carefully guard what has been entrusted to
you." That requires team work.
