I like excuses
and you like them too.
If we didn’t like them,
we'd be walking in truth.

You like excuses
and I like them three.
If we didn’t like them
we’d have unity.

I like excuses
and you like them four.
If we didn’t like them
we wouldn’t keep score.

I like agreements with others;
they don’t have to be right.
They just have to explain
our end of the fight.

They just have to explain
the bondages we don’t see.
Surely you’ll understand
some words don’t apply to me.
(or you)

Because I’ve been hurt
rehearsing the pain again.
In fact it’s become
like a good drinking friend.

Always there, but never
of any help.
I will blame you,
the dog and the elf.

I will blame the system
and not deal with my part of the sin.
I will continue to wonder
when my new ministry begins.

I will repeat the same things
but word them in new ways.
I will never go deeper
yet I will never go stray.

I will blame my past
and the future I will fear.
I will always listen
but never quite hear.

I know why I do it,
because it keeps coming back;
those triggers from thoughts
pulling hurts from the past.

But

Forget the above...

I can snip them and rip them
with those kingdom keys.
Wrong agreements and wrong teachings
I can choose to release.

I can grow tighter and glow brighter
with those kingdom keys.
to His truth and His will
and His plans for me.
