God Says What He Means and Means What He Says

When God spoke to Adam, the warning was crystal clear: “But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:17 NASB). God meant exactly what He said, and what He warned came to pass. The enemy’s only strategy was to sow doubt: “Indeed, has God said...?” (Genesis 3:1 NASB). He twisted God’s clear word into distrust, leading to unbelief and death.

Jesus gave an equally clear promise: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NASB). This is not vague or conditional. It is straightforward. God means what He says.

The enemy uses the same tactic today—causing doubt about the simplicity of the gospel. He whispers that there must be more to it, that God’s promises cannot be trusted fully, or that salvation depends on our performance. Yet Scripture repeatedly affirms God’s trustworthiness: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19 NASB).

We cannot let unclear or difficult verses cancel out the many clear verses about salvation. Satan can use the Word of God to deceive, just as he tried to do with Jesus in the wilderness by twisting Scripture. Jesus responded with the clear truth of God’s Word.

Jesus promised: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life” (John 5:24 NASB). Paul echoes this: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NASB). “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1 NASB).

God is for us, not against us. “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32 NASB). He loved us while we were sinners (Romans 5:8 NASB) and came to save us, not deceive us. If God cannot lie, and you have believed the gospel and placed your faith in Jesus as Savior, your salvation is secure for all eternity.

Let go of doubt. God says what He means and means what He says. Believe His clear promises, signed in His blood. Rest in His love. You are saved—completely, eternally, by grace through faith. Trust the One who gave His Son for you. He will never fail you.
