The next day at school, Paul told his track coach that he had changed his mind about quitting the team. Coach Longwell was thoroughly excited. He thanked Jesus Christ that he had his track star back. He was also thrilled that Paul was in better spirits than he had been in several weeks.

"I'm sorry I quit and that I hadn't been doing well, Coach," Paul apologized. "I know I was letting you and the team down. I'd just been through a difficult break-up, but I'm a lot better now. I found a really nice girl."

"Good for you, son," Coach Longwell said. "You deserve it. You deserve to be happy. You're a fine young man."

"Thanks, Coach. You're a great coach."

"Thanks, Paul. Now go out there and practice!" Coach Longwell grinned.

Paul was so excited that his coach was willing to let him rejoin the track team. He changed into his uniform and gave it everything he had when he got onto the track. He ran his heart out.

Just as Dina had predicted, Paul got his grades up in one week's time. He asked Judith to go to the movies with him that upcoming weekend. He was on cloud nine when Judith agreed to go out with him. When Paul announced his upcoming date, Samuel looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, son, but my law firm has an upcoming weekend business trip in Portland, and I can't get out of it. Your mom is accompanying me. We're leaving on Friday. We need you to watch Dina while we're gone, but why don't you have Judith come over before we leave so we can meet her? You can have her come over and spend a few hours with you and Dina. We trust you."

Paul wasn't upset. He knew that Samuel and Mallory had been paying more attention to him and Dina since they learned that Paul had wanted to commit suicide. He also understood that his dad couldn't get out of the business trip. "No problem," he agreed.

"Thanks, son," Mallory said. "We look forward to meeting Judith."

"You'll love her," Paul replied.
