The next day at school, Paul told Judith he had to babysit Dina that weekend. "You're still welcome to come over and meet my parents and spend a few hours with Dina and me after my mom and dad leave. We can make some popcorn and hot chocolate, sit by a fire, and watch television," he added.
"I'd like that," Judith said. She felt like jumping up and down for joy. She felt like she was walking on air. After all these years, she was finally going to spend an evening with the young man who had appeared in dozens of her dreams for years!
On Friday evening, Samuel and Mallory did indeed like Judith right away. They thought she was the sweetest young lady they had ever met. Mallory looked at the sky, which was looking rather gray. The wind was overwhelmingly strong. "I think a thunderstorm might be on its way. You guys should stay inside tonight."
"We will, Mom," Paul agreed.
"I hope the thunder isn't too loud and that there's no lightning," Dina said. "I'm terrified of lightning and thunder!"
"Well, there might be loud thunder and lightning. Hopefully there won't be, but if there is and you're scared, your big brother will be there for you," Mallory assured her daughter.
"That's right, Dina," Paul said. "If there's a storm and it frightens you, just let me know. I'll hold you on my lap and tell you a story. I'll even sing to you. That's what I always did when we were younger and you were afraid of something."
"Okay. Thanks, Paul," Dina said.
"No problem, kiddo." Paul put his arm around Dina's shoulders and hugged her to him.
