Author requests article critique

"Dina, sweetie, what's the matter?" Paul asked. Suddenly, he was very worried. His little sister's face was completely ashen. "Look at your face! You're so pale! Are you getting sick? Do you want me to take you to the doctor?"

"I want to go for a ride!" Dina sobbed. "I want to go off a cliff and into the ocean! I saw the list on your desk. If you die, I die! I don't want my life without my favorite person! You're my big brother! You're my hero! I didn't mean that Twilight Zone joke or any of my other jokes in the car! I'm sorry! Please don't ever kill yourself! If you want to go over the cliff, just let me know. I'll go with you! You may be miserable now, but I'll be miserable if you leave me! You may have lost something when you and Bridget broke up, but I love you! You still have that! I can't stop you from going over that cliff, but if you do, you're not going without me!"

Paul sighed heavily. He had completely forgotten that he had left that piece of paper on his desk. He loved Dina so much that he knew that he would never do anything that would harm her. He reconsidered his plan and knew that he wouldn't kill himself if that meant it would make Dina want to die, too. He got up, sat at his desk, and patted his knees. "Dina, please come over here," he said to his little sister.

Dina went to her brother. Paul pulled her onto his lap and put his arms around her. As he covered her with kisses on her forehead, he started to cry. "Don't worry, kiddo," he said softly. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm always going to be there for you and take care of you. I'll always keep you safe. Don't worry, I'm not upset by any of your jokes. I'm always going to pick you up from school, take you to ballet rehearsals, and watch you perform in all your recitals. I love you so much." He continued to give Dina multiple kisses on her forehead.

"I love you, too, Paul," Dina said as she wiped a few tears from her face. The color was starting to come back into her cheeks. "Thank you for choosing to live."

Paul touched his sister's hair gently. "You're very welcome. I'm still going through a difficult time, but I promise I'm never going to kill myself," he said quietly. "The Lord is going to get me through this. I know He will. I'd been praying that I could just go to sleep and never wake up, that the Lord would take my soul while I slept. When He wasn't doing that, I wanted to take matters into my own hands by killing myself. Now I know why He wasn't taking me. He knows that I'm still needed here. He loves us. He doesn't want any of us to kill ourselves.

"I agree," Dina sniffled. "I'm still sleepy. Are you?"

Paul nodded. "Let's go back and take a nap." He set Dina on the ground, got up, and lay back down on his bed. Dina climbed onto her brother's bed and nestled up to him. Paul put his arm around Dina and kissed her forehead again. Before they fell asleep, Paul and Dina each prayed. Paul thanked Jesus Christ for giving him the best little sister ever. Dina thanked Jesus Christ for the fact that her brother wanted to live.

"Paul?" Dina asked as her eyelids got heavy.

"Hmm?" Paul said softly as he felt his own eyes closing.

"Thanks for being a terrific older brother."

Paul smiled and patted Dina's head. "Thank you for being the best little sister ever." Within a few minutes, he and Dina were fast asleep.
