Focusing on the Eternal

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” (2 Peter 3:13-14 KJV)

Peter repeats promises that, contrary to false teachings, God, the Creator, will keep his promise of coming again and of new heavens and a new earth. (Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:1,27). It will be a time of righteousness, free from sin. “We shall be like him for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2)   AND, - - “There shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth.”  (Revelation 21:27).

So now comes the exhortation: Be diligent to live in peace, without spot, and blameless.  John, in 1 John 3:3 says that “every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” As we approach the time of His coming, we should want to be more and more like him. 

Paul expressed this spiritual expectation of our lives this way: “But we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”  (2 Corinthians 3:18).

We are to walk and talk with Him, and abide in Him.  “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7),

As a Christian, are you daily working at becoming more like Jesus?  It should be your daily goal.  As you spend time with Him, you will become more like Him. Start today!
