Devotional #29 in 2 Peter

“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:5-7 KJV)

The Psalmist wrote, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.  Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” (Psalm 33:6,8-9).

Peter was convinced of the absolute truth of the Creation and the Flood accounts.  The evolutionists are WILLINGLY ignorant of God’s truth.  But just as the God of Creation brought worldwide judgment through the flood, He will again bring worldwide judgment against the unbelieving, by means of the tribulation (Revelation 6-19) and final judgment on the earth. (2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 20:9; 21:1). 

It is as accurate today as it was in the first century: “the world by wisdom knew not God.”   (1 Corinthians 1:21).  By exalting man’s wisdom above God’s wisdom, a person brings upon himself God’s condemnation and judgment. 

It is truly time to “Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.” It is time for all to turn in “repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:21)
