God's Timeframe

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?  for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.  (2 Peter 3:3-4 KJV)

You can sense Peter’s spirit of urgency.  In chapter one, he urged believers to “add to their faith,” and then pointed them to the inspired Word of God.  In chapter two, he described the deceit of false teachers, the certainty of their judgment, and the wickedness of their character.  2 Peter 3:1-2 urges us to remember the teachings of the prophets and apostles.

He now alerts them to the scoffing of false teachers concerning the coming of the Lord.  “Where is the fulfillment of His coming?  Everything is continuing as before.” And that scoffing was already occurring in the first century.  It is now the 21^st century.  You remember that the apostles asked the Lord in Acts 1:6, “Will you restore the kingdom at this time?”  Jesus answered, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons.” Then He went on to recommission them to be witnesses in their hometown and all around the world.  (Acts 1:8)

Don’t get bogged down with dates and seasons in man’s timetable.  Our lifetime is extremely short from God’s viewpoint.  The Psalmist reminds us:  “LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.  Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity.  (Psalm 39:4-5)

Until the Lord’s Coming, reach as many people as possible for Christ!
