Marriage
" In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
I may not see the rewards of my labour in my lifetime, but I will continue to put in the work to make a clearer and brighter pathway for the generations to follow. My grandmother is my hero in this respect. Her endurance carved out a better pathway for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Despite the struggles she endured, she never gave up! And because she chose to stand against the wiles of the devil, she gave her children permission to fly. They were able to gain an education, allowing the generation that followed to have a better start in life.
Life is still challenging for me and my generation, in a very ugly way, but we still had a better start. For that start, I am very grateful.
Whilst the grandparents had no awareness of lacking emotional maturity, the education they afforded their children led to the next generations being exposed to such education. The challenges they faced in their marriage are no different than the ones we now face in ours. The difference is that we now have a plethora of resources that can help us to grow in the areas of deficit.
The baton has been handed to us to provide a better start for the next generation. What they could not articulate, the Holy Spirit has been revealing. We are now in a better position to understand the need to seek godly mentors who can help us climb the challenging hills we face.
The same is true of you. What do you have to do in your setting, in your family, to help make things a little easier for the next generation carrying your DNA into the future? What can you do today to make a difference in your tomorrow?
What do you have in your hands?
Mordecai fought with the pen in his hand and the signet ring (see chapter 8) given to him by the king when he signed that edict. With that seal, he spared a nation and secured the future for the generations to follow. The Jews were empowered to fight back rather than allowing the entire nation to be wiped out due to hatred of another.
What I gleaned from this section of the study: Esther, the wife, was made aware of the sin in the camp, so to speak. She discerned the right time to approach her husband about the problem at hand, after seeking direction through fasting (see chapter 4:15-16), which would suggest they were praying for direction.
That was an instruction for me! Although a challenge trying to figure it out as I journey through, I desire to do the will of my Father. So, like “…Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.” (Esther 4:17), I have been encouraged to do the same.
I am now carrying out the instructions I received from the Lord, knowing that it is not just for my healing. It is to help so many others who find themselves in the same position as I have found myself. It is also to help those who want to help the fatherless among them but simply do not know how or where to begin.
As I share with you, the Holy Spirit will do the convicting, the confronting, the correcting and the comforting necessary to take you to the next step on the journey. Always being reminded that He chastises those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). We are His children, and I believe it breaks His heart to watch us live a less-than-fulfilled life when we can have an abundant life here on earth as we live out our faith. He sent His Son to give us life in abundance (John 10:10b).
"...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
