Standing Strong With Charlie Kirk In a Time of Darkness

The news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination has left a heavy weight on many of our hearts. For many, it feels like the world has grown a little darker. We are reminded once again that the values we hold dear—faith, family, freedom, and truth—are under active attack in this present age. The Apostle Paul warned us that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). What we are seeing in our country is not only political conflict, but spiritual war.

Just recently I was on the phone with a friend named Tom. He had moved his family out of California, partly to be closer to his children, but also because the state has become so politically leftist that it is nearly unrecognizable. While we were talking, his wife interrupted the conversation to say that Charlie Kirk had been shot. At first, I was stunned. I had heard of Charlie Kirk before, but I had never listened to him very much. I knew he was a strong voice for Conservative political action, but I did not realize how openly he professed Christ. I suggested we pray for this man right then and there. A short time later, my cousin sent me a text saying "He did not make it." 

I grieved in my spirit knowing that Satan was waging war against Christ and His church.

 Since Charlie Kirk's death, I have listened to more of his videos and debates, and I see how boldly he contended with the wicked and with those confused souls who have been brainwashed by our universities, schools, and churches.

In many ways, I understand those who oppose truth, because I, too, was once in their shoes. Before I became a Christian, I lived with false ideas and worldly thinking that had been poured into me by the culture. It takes years of prayer, study, and God’s grace to undo the lies we have been taught. Ignorance is rampant today, and that is why the Bible exhorts us to “study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Notice that it says we are to be approved unto God—not to the State, not to ungodly organizations, not to men, but to the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is our Judge.

In the final analysis, what we believe about Him and how we respond to His commandments will determine our destiny—both as a nation and as individuals.

When tragedy strikes, it is natural to feel anger, fear, and even despair. But the Bible gives us direction in times like these: “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). We cannot allow the darkness of this world to overcome our hearts. Righteous anger must lead us to righteousness in our own lives, not bitterness or hopelessness. The greatest battle we fight is not only against the culture, but against our own sin. Paul confessed, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing” (Romans 7:18). That is why we are commanded to put sin to death in our lives, for if we harbor hypocrisy, pride, or secret iniquity, we will be powerless to stand against the enemy without.

Charlie’s life and testimony, now sealed by his death, has become a call to holiness for many of us. It has stirred my own heart to lead my family with greater prayer, to love my wife with deeper Christ-like sacrifice, and to show my children not just words of faith but a life of faith. The Psalmist prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). That prayer must be ours as well, for only with clean hearts and steadfast spirits can we see clearly, live boldly, and stand courageously.

We must remember that while the enemy is loud and violent, their power is not final. The Bible reminds us, “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Christ has already won the ultimate victory. Our task now is to walk in that victory with purity, courage, and hope. Evil may strike, but it cannot triumph over the Kingdom of God. Jesus Himself said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

So let us not be discouraged, nor allow fear to reign in our hearts. Let us instead recommit ourselves to Christ, to His Word, and to His truth. Let us stand strong for our families, for our churches, and for our nation. Above all, let us remember that our hope is not in men, nor in governments, but in the Lord who rules over all. His Kingdom cannot be shaken, and His promises cannot fail.

This is not the end. It is a new beginning. The torch has been passed into our hands. May we carry it with faith, courage, and hope until the day the Lord calls us home.

Comfort for the Grieving

To those who feel overwhelmed with sorrow, let us cling to the promises of God. Jesus said, “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). He also told His disciples, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me” (John 14:1). We may not understand all that has happened, but we know the Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and that He gives peace the world cannot take away (John 14:27).

The grave is not the end. For those who trust in Christ, death is swallowed up in victory. As Paul declared, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? … But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:55, 57). That is our hope, our comfort, and our courage as we press on.
