="And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word." 1 Kings 18:21.
The words of Elijah, a great Prophet of God in Israel in ancient times, contain a lot of lessons for someone ready to learn.
To "falter between two opinions" is a state of being confused. It is like a man who arrives at a junction not sure of which road or path to follow.
At such a junction, a decision is needed. This decision will either be the right one or the wrong one. Yet, a decision must be made and an action should follow.
One truth is that each of the paths or roads leads to a destination. Depending on the intention of the traveller, one of the ways available will lead him to his predetermined destination.
One thing is sure, he needs to bail himself out of confusion to arrive somewhere because remaining confused will not take him anywhere at all. For how long will a man live a confused life? A decision needs to be taken and the necessary steps should be followed appropriately to arrive safely.
In the case of Israel in the days of Prophet Elijah and King Ahab, it was a spiritual choice that needed to be made. However, they were grossly confused, not knowing whether they should follow the Lord God of their fathers to reap all the benefits associated with the covenant He had made with their fathers or to follow Baal, the works of man's hands, an idol which did not benefit them.
As it was, so it is. Some people are at the crossroads of their spiritual life. They don't know whether they should follow the Lord who gives life and all good things in this world and everlasting life hereafter or follow man-made gods that could not profit them in this present world or in eternity.
To gain here on Earth and lose in Heaven is always regrettable. There is no hope for idols and all those who worship them after this life.
Therefore, if you are confused, leave that state now. Decide and choose right! Jesus is the right way to the Father who has eternal life to give. There are other ways but the end of the journey matters most. The Lord declares,
"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26 (New King James Version, NKJV)
Beloved of Christ, do not allow yourself to be confused, and do not confuse yourself. Leave your state of confusion, if any. Act right and fast on the way to eternal life. May the Lord be with you and uphold you, now and forever in Jesus' name. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
