Lord God,

I thank you that I am loved and chosen by you,

I thank you that I am valuable in your eyes,

And that nothing I can say or do,

Will change your affection for me,

But Lord, I confess that my heart is often drawn to man’s praise,

Rather than resting in my identity in you,

I often find myself chasing after the validation of others,

Even if it means compromising my values,

Have mercy on me when my fear of people has overtaken my fear of you,

Have mercy on me when I seek praise or acceptance more than I seek you,

I surrender to you now my need to feel important in the eyes of others,

I surrender to you now my need to be accepted by others,

I surrender to you now my fears of not meeting people’s expectations,

I surrender to you now my fears that I am not enough,

So Lord,

Open my eyes anew today,

Convict me once again of your power and your glory,

That I might learn to fear you,

When I am tempted to focus on what the world values,

Remind me that my self-worth is ultimately found in you,

And that having your approval is all that I need,

Free me now from my slavery to other people’s opinions of me,

And empower me to obey you all the more wholeheartedly,

That my life would be ever pleasing to you.
