'Life Throws Curveballs – But You Can Still Hit a Home Run'

You know, life has a funny way of throwing curveballs at us, doesn’t it? And if you’re not ready—if your stance is off, if your swing’s not right—you’re gonna miss those pitches. You won’t connect. You’ll strike out. Not because the opportunity wasn’t there, but because you weren’t prepared.

Sometimes life grips you—and I’m not talking about a gentle squeeze around your fingers. No, I mean it grabs you by the throat. It gets hard to breathe. The pressure’s on. And in those moments, you realize something real: you can’t just coast through the tough seasons. You either rise… or you fall. You either push forward… or you give up.

But let me tell you something—you’ve got what it takes to bounce back.

You’ve got to be like rubber. When life slams you to the pavement, don’t crack—bounce! Come back stronger. Come back with a fresh attitude, a new way of looking at things, and a deeper understanding of who you are and what you’re capable of.

Now I get it—there’s stress. A lot of it. Maybe the stock market’s got your stomach in knots. Maybe your savings are slipping, your family’s under strain, or your marriage feels like it’s hanging by a thread. Maybe your health’s taken a dive or people you love are battling sickness or loss. And let’s be real—even the weather can feel like it’s working against you.

But even when it seems like chaos is all around us—God is still in control.

He’s sovereign over the weather. Over the economy. Over sickness. And yes, even over the hearts of men. Nothing escapes His watchful eye.

So let’s talk about moving forward—toward more productivity, more joy, more purpose. Look, there’s nothing wrong with success. There’s nothing wrong with wealth or wanting a better life. Somewhere along the way, many of us—especially believers—bought into the lie that poverty is more spiritual. That struggling is somehow more righteous.

But I’m here to remind you: God doesn’t want you living in worry or lack.

As the Apostle Paul said, “Be anxious for nothing. But in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” And what happens when we do that? “The peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Now that’s the mindset shift we need: focus on what is pure, what is lovely, what is of good report.

Ambition isn’t unspiritual—it’s necessary when it’s sanctified. It might mean learning new skills, going back to school, or leveling up in your career. Some of you have worked hard—and I hear you—you feel unseen, underappreciated. Maybe your boss really is unfair. Or maybe you’re not performing at the level you think you are.

Either way, you’ve got options. Get a new job. Find a leader who believes in you. Or upgrade your skills, become more valuable to the marketplace. You see, in our economic system—which, even with its flaws, is still one of the best in the world—you are rewarded based on the value you bring.

That’s why immigrants can come here, barely speak the language, and become millionaires in just a few years. Meanwhile, some of us who were born here fall into a kind of sleep—we're paid to stay home, and we drift. Friends… we’re sleepwalking through life. But it's time to wake up.

We’ve got to walk through life with purpose—eyes wide open. Be alert. Be aware. Paul said it best: “Walk circumspectly, not as fools, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” That means looking around in all directions. Keep your head on a swivel. Pay attention to what’s happening—physically, emotionally, spiritually.

Now let’s get real. The world is getting darker. Churches are drifting. The old hymns, rich in theology, are being replaced by songs that stir emotion but lack depth. And while some of it feels good, what we need now is sound teaching. As Paul told Titus: “Speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.”

So here’s my encouragement for you today:

Meditate on God’s Word. Ask for more faith. Delight in His law, day and night. Let it guide you.

Because when the world shakes, your foundation won’t.
