Here Jesus begins speaking of ideas most cannot accept. We are constantly bombarded by media which focuses on self. But Jesus says to be His follower we must deny ourselves. Does this mean we don’t address our needs? No, but there certainly is a difference between needs and desires. Trust that Jesus will provide for your needs, but your desires need to be that which the Lord wants, and not what you desire. It is so easy to get caught up in the desires of the flesh, the desires of this world, but that does not lead one to the pathway leading to the Lord. This certainly will be a cross to carry, but we must be obedient to the Lord.
