Loving God,

My heart wrenches as I think about the passing away of a dear friend,

It feels like they have left this world too soon,

So many opportunities lost, so many happy moments that can no longer be relived,

My friend is gone, and so many broken hearts have been left behind,

Lord, I pray that you would be with me as I grieve,

Though I feel like a piece of me has been taken out,

Please remind me that you are with me,

And that even in my darkest moments,

Your love surrounds me,

May you sustain me by your grace,

That I might find the strength to carry on each day,

I pray this not only for myself,

But also for the loved ones of my dear friend,

May they too know your comfort and goodness,

And find support in their time of need,

Yet Lord, I am reminded that we don’t grieve in despair,

Through Christ, death does not have the final say,

None of us knows how long we will have left on this Earth,

Whether it is one day or one hundred years more,

Tomorrow is not guaranteed,

But I know that when I have reached the end of my days,

I can look forward, along with all those who trust in you,

To the time when suffering, sorrow and pain will no longer exist,

And death will be a thing of the past,

So Lord,

As I grieve today, I also grieve in hope,

Looking forward to the day when I will be reunited with all of my family in Christ,

In perfect life, forevermore.
