Dusty old Bible,

My old companion,

It has been a while since we spoke,

It is not your fault,

I have been meaning to catch up,

But always seem to lack the time,

Even when I do manage to find an opportunity,

It never seems like the right moment,

I lack the energy,

I find my mind constantly wandering to other things,

Dinner plans, shopping lists, work deadlines,

Before I know it, months fly past,

And you feel like a stranger,

But I know things can’t continue this way,

Where would I be without your wisdom,

Your words of life,

Guiding me through every decision, every season,

Both the good and the bad times,

My spirit within me hungers,

That I might hear God’s voice again,

Dear friend,

Though I have neglected you so many times before,

Breathe out God’s truths once more,

As I open your pages today,

The light for my eyes,

Warmth for my heart,

Strength for these weak hands,

Pleasant, sweeter than the finest honey,

Wholesome,

That my spirit might be renewed within me.
