An Old Man

Somewhere on a cold pavement,

An old man lies,

With tattered garments and empty pockets,

All alone and abandoned,

Every day, his body wastes away,

As the hunger gnaws at his stomach,

He feels death’s clutch,

His reward for all the mistakes of the past,

With no purpose in life,

No family to belong to,

His very existence is a mistake,

In the eyes of the world,

He is a nobody….

Yet in the eyes of God,

He is fully known,

Uniquely formed in the image of his Maker,

Adopted into the family of God,

Created to know and worship him,

His sins have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus,

And he has been raised with Christ to new life,

He has found the true bread of heaven,

On the inside, he is being renewed day by day,

As the Holy Spirit lives and works in him,

Now clothed in the robe of righteousness,

This child of God can stand firm in faith,

Equipped to share God’s love in a world gone cold.
