In the first part of this article, it was discussed that an honorable man is a man of God who has the Spirit of God. It is not a function of occupying a position only. It includes doing so with the fear of God. You may not be wrong if you conclude that there are dishonorable people in positions of authority who answer to being called "Honorable".

The verse of the Holy Bible we are examining is the first book of Samuel Chapter Nine, verse six. It discloses,
"Look, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man, all he says surely come to pass. So let us go there, perhaps he can show us the way that we should go."/

The above was the response of a servant to his Master's request that they both need to return from searching for an ass that was lost.

In part two of this title, let me start by pointing out that it was not the honorable man who announced that everyone should call him so. It was his ways of life that pronounced him so. People made a careful observation of his lifestyle and they concluded so. No one was sure of the servant's closeness to the man but it was a sure statement that he was a man of honor. He must have had an encounter with the man, Samuel before he could declare him an Honorable Man.

An Honorable man deserves honor. He is worthy of the honor bestowed upon him. He is a man who acts according to the integrity of his heart in any capacity he finds himself. His heart dictates his words and actions. No contradiction, whatsoever. He will never think one thing, say another thing contrary to his thoughts. Whatever he says or does will always be in the integrity of his heart.

Let me not fail to state here that an honorable man is not infallible. He can make honest mistakes that can be corrected and pardoned. This was the case with King Abimelech in the days of Abraham.

What happened? He took Sarah, Prophet Abraham's wife to his palace as his wife. Why should he do that? The husband and wife have resolved to call each other and act as brother and sister. So, by King Abimelech's calculation, he was married to Abraham's sister, thus making Abraham his brother-in-law.

It was the Lord God of Abraham who intervened by revealing to Abimelech that he was taking over another man's wife. In this encounter with the Creator of all things the king stated,
"In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands, I have done this."_ Genesis 20:5.

This means that he feared the Lord his God. He did not plan to usurp another person's wife or position. Both his heart and hands were clean from any evil. He knew it and God confirmed it was so. God's response to his innocence was declared, "Yes, I know, that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her." Genesis 20:6.

Although the word "Honorable" was not used in the story from the Scriptures it was clear that whoever does things with integrity and innocence of his hands deserves every honor, and he is therefore an honorable man. Pay attention to the fact that Abimelech was holding a Political office as a king in Gerar. He was not chosen to be something else but a King, he also chose to be an Honorable Man(King).

This means that being an Honorable Man is a choice to be made by every individual, have you chosen to be one?

Still considering the matter of this honorable man and King, you are equally right to call him An Honorable King, Abimelech. It is important to point out the noticeable virtue of an honorable man that was mentioned by the King. What was it? Fear of God!
He disclosed this by saying to God in a dream,
"Lord, will you slay a righteous nation also?..." verse 4.

A righteous nation is one where there is a fear of God. Abraham did not know that there was fear of God in the land; so he applied wisdom to save his life for his wife.

Let me draw this to a conclusion by saying that An Honorable Man is a man of integrity who does everything with the integrity of his heart. He is a righteous man any day and any time. He does not fear God alone but does so with his people.

Beloved, are you ready to be an Honorable Man or Woman? He is full of honor before God and man. It is not a position that makes one an Honorable Man but his thoughts, words, and actions where he is. May you be able to live the life of an Honorable Man or Woman in the name of Jesus Christ? Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
