Leadership
In May 2024, one day on a radio station, two Politicians from two different Political parties were interviewed on what they had in store for the Electorates in the Local Government election that was to take place in a state in Nigeria, West Africa.
Trust Politicians, the two tactically "insulted each other. One of them, in an attempt to do this, said the other man was not fit to be addressed as "Honorable" which the interviewer, the anchor man of the program has been used to address the two of them. What was his reason? He claimed that the other man man had never been elected into any office even at the Local Government level.
I do not believe that the word "Honorable" is reserved for only those who held or hold a political office. In certain countries, especially in less developed nations, the term may be in high esteem within Political circles. There is no offense in that, I think. The moderator of the interview also attempted to point out the truth about who can be called "An Honorable Man".
In the content of the first Samuel Chapter Nine in verse six, " Look now there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man, all he says surely comes to pass. So let us go there, perhaps he can show us the way that we should go."
Using the above as the yardstick to measure an Honorable man, let us consider the first thing about him.
He is a Man of God. What does this mean, you may ask? A man of God is someone who knows the Lord his God. He fears Him in all his thoughts, words, and deeds. He is someone who knows very well that he is accountable to God in all ways. A man of God does not do anything for selfish reasons (s). He serves the Lord his God in the lives of others. He makes the Lord happy by his services to humanity.
In the same way, a man of God is a person who has the Spirit of God in him all the time. On the day of his installation into office as the Prime Minister in the land of Egypt, King Pharaoh had this to say about Joseph, the son of Jacob, "Can we find such a man as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?" Genesis 41:38.
Please, pay attention to the words, "Can we find...". He was referring to himself and all those in various positions of authority in the land. Nothing was heard in the form of opposition to the observation of the King. No better suggestions for the name of Joseph. This, in essence, means that being a man of God is not a "common thing". Do you know that King Pharaoh and his reigning team were not in the group of men of God? It was only a man of God who has the Spirit of the Living God who is a man of God. This is not a matter of religion but having a smooth and pleasing relationship with the living God by a living faith in Him through His Holy Spirit.
Do not forget that in Egypt, they have their religions in various forms and ways. No controversy over this in the land. Everyone was doing things normally and unchallenged. The government was run through the spirits of their religions and gods. On a notable day, it became clear to the powers that be that there is a Spirit that surpasses the spirits of religions. The person who identified this could not be challenged. Not only that, the issue on hand, a pending famine, could no one bring out of the King's dreams, before the intervention of God of Joseph.
Dreams that religious people of Egypt could not interpret, a man who had the Spirit of God interpreted them correctly and he was used by God to proffer a lasting solution to the approaching trouble about to ravage the land of Egypt and the world at large. Joseph was the only one in the city who was a man and a servant of God under the influence of and direct leadership of the Spirit of God.
Let me bring this part of the write-up to a close by stating that there is a wide gap between a man of God and a servant of God. It is worthy of note that everything created by the Living God is His servant. He uses anything to fulfill His will at any time and any place in any way. Servants of God are very common and are readily available for use by Him. A man of God is precious and not common.
However, a man of God can be a servant of God at the same time. Joseph was a man of God who was used as a servant of God to preserve the lives of so many people, including all members of his father's household.
Joseph was an ideal Honorable Man because he had the Spirit of God. He was a man of God who feared Him in all his ways, Genesis 39:8-9, 42:18.
To be in a position of power is one thing but to be a man of God in power leading through the Holy Spirit is another. Be An Honorable Man. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
