Woes and Blessings

Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.” Luke 6:21-22 NIV

Jesus never promised a life of prosperity to those who follow Him. He tells us that we will face trials and tribulations, yet He has overcome the world. The world may have control over what happens to our body, yet it can’t control our heart, mind and soul. We who belong to Christ know that our eternity is with Him. We might be considered poor in terms of materialism, but we have a spirit living within us, the Holy Spirit. We might hunger for food or drink, yet our true hunger is for the word of God. This is what nourishes the heart and soul. We may weep now, but we can weep for that which is of this world, for we have that which is eternal, true life in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Good explanation of why the Christian should hold strongly to their faith through good and bad times. The many revelations of Jesus Christ tell us that the world will increasingly oppose Him and his followers.
