Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.” Luke 5:34-35 NIV
Oh, the brilliance in the responses of our Lord. There would come a time when Jesus was removed from the presence of His disciples. His death, resurrection and ascension into heaven resulted in the separation in physical form between Christ and His disciples, and between Christ and His followers today. When we fast hopefully our focus then moves to prayer, communication with our Lord and Savior.
